what's that song?

Can't figure out the track ID to a certain song that's been stuck in your head or on your favorite mix tape? Help is on the way. Look no further than watzatsong. You can register for free and then upload a short clip of the song in question and then other members will inform you as to what your mystery song is. This is great, but it is highly member-dependent, which has been a problem I've noticed on message boards- most people don't really take the time to actually listen to your mystery songs and help you out. I haven't tried watzatsong yet, but I have a few tracks in mind that I've been wondering for years if anyone will know what they are, although they are probably obscure since they are on Chicago house DJ mixed cassettes from the early 90's. I'll let you know how the response goes on watzatsong, but I'm hopeful since they actually post a counter on how long it took for someone to respond to track ID requests. This is very cool, but again, it depends on us all to join and actually listen to songs and help each other out.

stone roses - i am the resurrection (remix)

This is dedicated to Dionne, since she shares my love of The Stone Roses' eponymous first album (but I think she agrees with me that their second album bit the big one). This isn't the best remix, but I found it on a music blog today and thought it was worth posting as a shout out to D, since she's experiencing all that "cold" weather out in Los Angeles (insert rolling eyes here). D, the wind chill was well below zero in these parts this weekend, so you'll get no sympathy from your friends and family in the Midwest. Hopefully this re-edit of the Stone Roses' "I Am The Resurrection" will warm you up, though.

the mccoys - hang on sloopy (mta hai karate remix)

This played-out (decades-long played-out, to be more accurate) sports anthem is given a new spin, for the better. If anyone knows if this reworked version of The McCoys' "Hang on Sloopy" is available on vinyl or will be released on vinyl anytime in the near future let me know as soon as possible before it gets played out once again in this incarnation on my iTunes.

my documentary

For my film making class I have to produce, write, film, direct, score, and edit my own short film by May of 2008 and I have finally settled on a subject for my documentary. I'm going to do it on the dying bee populations in the U.S. and the reasons why they are dwindling. If anyone knows any beekeepers in the Midwest or any scientists anywhere who are researching this subject please contact me ASAP. Thanks.

Flash forward almost two decades, and I still occasionally get to hear Ian tear up sound systems at nightclubs when he visits the Cleveland area from his relocated home in NYC. He runs the n space record label.

shame, shame, shame

I'm Withdrawing My Support of Ron Paul's Candidacy
I agree with the author of the above link due to racist and homophobic remarks printed in Mr. Paul's newsletter, so I'm recrossing the blue-red line and can't decide between Obama and Hilary. The decision would have been a lot clearer in my mind before Monday when Hilary actually showed the world that she's not a robot. We still have some time to decide until the Ohio primary, though. I urge everyone to vote in the primary elections, as this is just as important as voting in November.

tek-know's big rig

The legendary Dan Bell will be coming to Akron this Friday 1.11.08 on 29,000 watts of sonic goodness! Bring earplugs and prepare for face melting.

Daniel Bell is considered to be one of the pioneers of the minimal techno genre. Born in Sacramento, California, Bell grew up outside of Toronto, and later moved to Detroit where he collaborated with Richie Hawtin as Cybersonik for three years on Plus 8 records. In 1991, he started his own label, Accelerate, where he released a string of extremely influential releases as DBX. Bell was influenced primarily by Chicago House as well as the works of Steve Reich and Philip Glass. His productions are characterized by minimalist house grooves accented by blips and bleeps. Some tracks also feature bizarre voice effects and eerie atmospherics such as "Losing Control," which caused a sensation when released in 1994. In the mid to late 90's Bell moved behind the scenes to create 7th City Distribution. He also launched Elevate, Harmonie Park and relaunched 7th City Records. In 2000, he relocated to Berlin, Germany, and released his first mixed CD, "The Button-Down Mind of Daniel Bell," on Tresor Records to wide critical acclaim. 2003 brought a follow-up release on Logistic records, "The Button-Down Mind Strikes Back," and soon after a retrospective CD of older work was released: "Blip, Blurp, Bleep: The Music of Daniel Bell". For the past few years Dan has kept a heavy DJ schedule that has taken him all over the world. In 2007, he took a step back from DJing to focus on production and developing a live show that he's finally taking to the road.

Also on the bill to help Dan beat these speakers like they're built to be beaten:
